I Love Paris in the Spring Time....

No....this isn't Paris in the spring time (yet)...but now that all my packing jobbies have been done I'm just hangin' around in Brisbane singin' this:
Doesn't get much better than Frank...does it?

Earlier in the week, Pierre and I went to see the gorgeous Jane Birkin in concert..... remember that little song she did with Serge all those years ago?  Je t'aime......who could forget it!
Paris in the spring time....I'll be there in just over a week........je t'aime!

Flying Away to Paris

It's almost time to fly away to Paris.....and begin our life there.

I can hardly believe that it's finally here.

It will be so lovely getting to know Paris slowly.  No rushing around as we have done in the past.

We'd really like to develop friendships with our Parisian neighbours too.  I know it will take time....but....where's there's a will there's a way!

All the planning and discussions we've had to get to this point.

At first there was some initial hesitation....should Pierre and I actually do this.....such a big leap into the unknown.....what if this.....what if that.....we don't speak fluent French....would we be able to manage in Paris?
There was so much to consider........living in Paris.......is this the right thing to do?
Finally, certainly, absolutely....life is short.....allons-y å Paris......let's go to Paris!
Mes amis...we are not here for a long time, but we are most definitely here for a GOOD TIME!

Paris...we'll see you on 1 April!

Au Revoir Australie et Bonjour Paris

In only a fews weeks now, we'll be saying, "Au revoir Australie" and "Bonjour Paris!"

We'll be away for a while and I know we'll miss its beauty......
those beautiful beaches....
the bush.....

and lovely Brisbane...our home city.
Of course I'll miss my garden and those rusty balls...
But....I'll be swapping my garden balls for those gleaming Parisian silver balls in the Palais Royale......
The Palais Royale.....it's on the top of my list when we arrive on 1 April.  I think it's one of the most beautiful spaces in Paris.
It's always calm there..........we'll wander through the lime trees, perch on one of Daniel Burren's sculptures, stroll along the collonades for some seriously posh window-shopping, and peut-etre/perhaps take a little detour into the fabulous Serge Lutens Salon www.sergelutens.com.
Those fab Daniel Burren columns
Serge's lovely little perfume samples
Galerie Vivienne....home to a spectacular wine bar.
A quick dash to Legrand for un vin rouge.
And perhaps at the end of the day.........we'll pop around the corner and head to our favourite wine bar in Gallerie Vivienne, Legrand Filles et Fils www.galerie-vivienne.com and just chill!

Yes.........it'll be hard to say au revoir to Australia.............but I know we'll never be bored in Paris!

Maintenant only vingt-trois/23 sleeps to go!

Paris...Are We Going Too Far

A friend sent me this fabulous quote by T.S. Eliot....
ONLY THOSE WHO RISK
GOING TOO FAR
CAN POSSIBLY FIND OUT
HOW FAR ONE CAN GO
(T.S. Eliot)
I think it's the perfect sentiment for mon aventure....certainly the birds visiting mon jardin follow it every day.

So.....on this adventure, Pierre and I will follow Eliot's quote.....let's see how far we can go!
Hopefully, we'll have the time of our lives...just like the cuties below.
A bientot!

Paris and L'Heure Bleue

.......L'Heure Bleue/the blue hour.....that time of day when the sun has set, but night has not yet fallen.  L'Heure Bleue is the moment when the sun disappears beneath the horizon and the sky is painted in the velvety blue of night.

I recently read that quote by Guerlain en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guerlain, that fabulous French perfume house, to describe their sublime fragance, L'Heure Bleue.

I think this perfectly describes an early evening sky in Paris in Springtime and it's one of the things that I love most about Paris at this time of year.

That precise shade of blue is sublime........and I'm so looking forward to gazing up at that soft velvety blue sky in a few weeks time.  Have a look at l'heure bleue below...........and you can see what I mean.  The sky actually changes to those shades of blue.  Magnifique/superb!

C'est magnifique...non?
No doubt le coleur bleu will find its way into my journals this Spring too....perhaps I'll create a midnight blue collage or a series of prints using a steely blue/black ink (that shade of blue that you see on construction blueprints.)

This colour first called out to me many years ago when I saw a print of Joan Miro's fabulous painting, Carnival of the Harlequin en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joan_Miro.  Miro used an intense cobalt blue in that painting......and I've loved the colour ever since.

Below are images from my Blueprint Series (all monoprints) inspired by Miro's cobalt blue.

Blueprint I
and above Blueprints II, III, IV.
And I thought you may like these images from the Miro exhibition in London last year.  Miro, Miro on the wall........
A vibrant combination of hot orange, cool green and a shot of Miro's cobalt blue.
I love le coleur bleu!  So here's my little collection of blue images, taken in Paris and environs, last Spring.
Royal blue in the Invalides
The magnificent Musée de l'Orangerie....home to Claude Monet's waterlillies.....one of his favourite themes.

Sockin' it to ya in the Marais!
As proud as......and with good reason!
Un vélo bleu/a blue bike in the 7th arrondissement
A little bee enjoying un plat bleu/a blue dish in the garden at Musée Rodin.
Elegant blue lines in the courtyard at Musée Carnavalet
J'aime le bleu/I like blue!  Maintenant/now...........only 30 sleeps to go!
