The Rains of Ranchipur

I'm bunkered down here today...you see, northern Queensland is in the midst of a very big cyclone.

It's called Cyclone Marcia...and she's quite angry.

So I'm just taking it easy and enjoying the rains...the "Rains of Ranchipur" as a friend is wont to say!

Actually, this rain reminds me of the time I visited Alcåzar, in Seville, Spain.

The hubster and I were chasing the sun…Paris had been raining for months and months and months…so we headed south to Seville for a few days to boost our Vitamin D levels!

We'd always wanted to see Alcåzar, too, that beautiful royal Moorish palace and garden smack bang in the middle of Seville.

However, those Parisian rain clouds followed us…nothing but rain all the time we were there…but oh, those rich colours!

The rain had intensified the colours too…making them rich, glossy and bright.

So I'd like to show you some of that glorious Alcåzar colour….and contrast it with black and white images of one of our beautiful, Brisbane parklands.  Hope you like it.

Colour blocks from Alcåzar, Seville:
Black, white, grey, green….now there's a collage/drawing coming up!
The "Rains of Ranchipur" poured on Alcåzar when we visited….a bit like Brisbane at present!
The palace and gardens are spectacular….and if ever I need a little inspiration I consult
these colour images….WOW factor personified.
Slow Stroll through Roma Street Parkland
And now...let the influences and inspiration commence.  Guess what I'm doing for the rest of the day?

I've already printed, glued, scratched, scorched and scraped….now to cut, rip and assemble.

Great day for it!
Ciao

Robyn

  3. Hi, dear Robyn! I hope the cyclone didn't do any damage. Judging from this marvelous post, it didn't do much to dampen your spirits. Thank you for this study in color and contrast. Your pictures are first rate. You found the ideal rainy day endeavor creating collages and I hope you are going to bed feeling happy with the results. I find them inspiring.

Good night and have a wonderful weekend, dear friend Robyn!

    1. Hello Shady...and thank you for visiting again. I'm pleased you liked the images....a great point of reference for me when I am drawing and creating. No shortage of ideas!!!!!

All good here in Brisbane...we just had lots and lots of rain....no destructive winds here but poor old central Queensland got a battering.

Let's hope there's not too much flooding. Always occurs at this time of year though....cyclones, rain depressions, flooding......"a sunburnt country, a land of sweeping plains, of droughts and flooding rains"! That's Australia Shady.

      Still raining today...so back to the artwork/reading/sleeping I guess. Aren't I lucky!

    1. Thank you Joelle. I do appreciate your visit.

Your beautiful Moroccan tile post prompted this little post....aren't the tile colours wonderful. I adore that green!!!! Alcåzar was originally a Moorish fort....and now it's the royal palace, where I believe, members of the royal family continue to reside when in Seville. It was THE most wonderful place....but the rain that day did prevent us from wandering in that glorious garden. The palace is such a treasure...so rich, so intricate, so ornate.....and so much history. I adored it. And you are probably aware that it is now a UNESCO world heritage site.

I've never been to Tangier Joelle....but would love to visit!! You just never know! I suppose treasures like Alcåzar abound in your area!

Thank you for your visit once again.

  7. Thanks Robyn, the beautiful colours of Alcazar is just what I need after the torrential rain we have just experienced......(we had the ark at the ready!)....what magnificent photos...and Roma Street certainly has changed since my Brisbane days.....again beautifully depicted.......and you must be chuffed with your collages....stunning as always.......disappointed though that you didn't use a drill for finishing touches to the scorching, tearing, gluing, ripping.....only kidding!!!! 1. Hi there vosgesparis....thank you for your concern. We were OK here in Brisbane (lots and lots of heavy rain)....but many people in North-Eastern Queensland suffered a lot of heartbreak. Total destruction for many Queenslanders. Tropical cyclone Marcia was very, very angry! So...it will take a lot of time for people to resume their normal lives. I really feel for them!

But thank you again for your visit....and please let me know if ever you decide to visit Brisbane...I would love to show you around.
