Jardins...the Bold, the Beautiful and the Romantic III

Arriving home from Berlin on Saturday, we drove across the city to our apartment in the 9th arrondissement and again I was struck by the sheer beauty of Paris.

She looked magnificent on Saturday afternoon....cobalt blue skies, thick green chestnut tree foliage lining the streets and those slate-roofed Haussmanian buildings gleaming in the sunlight. It was good to be home.

We drove past the Jardin du Luxembourg.......what a magnificent garden this is.....hidden paths and statues, a bandstand, kiosks, rows and rows of chestnut trees, vivid yellow blossoms, contemplative fountains, urns filled with rosy geraniums, even a marionette theatre!  I could go on.  It's one of my favourites.

And Jardin du Palais Royal....it's another favourite too.  This is such a gloriously quiet space where one can sit and ponder the passing of time....or perhaps play a game of boules or sketch one of those ruby red Summer dahlias.

(1)  Jardin du Luxembourg....used by Parisians and tourists alike....to play, to rest, to be.

A true Summer garden...vivid hot colours against a vibrant green.
Reflective pools and dappled light....
these gardens will be my inspiration for a series
of etchings and collagraphs
when I eventually return to Australia.
And if it all gets too much for you....then there's always
a vin rouge waiting at Le Pavillon de La Fontaine.
(2)  Jardin du Palais Royal....one stop-shop for gardens, sculpture, arcades and bistros.
Roses and dahlias in full Summer bloom.
I tend to think that Jardin du Palais Royal gives a double whammy....or a triple whammy for that matter...because not only is it a remarkable garden, but it's bordered by elegant arcades, home to some of the best salons, boutiques and bistros in Paris....and there's also the famous forecourt of Daniel Burren's striped columns....meandering, chasing shadows, sketching or just smelling the roses....Jardin du Palais Royal is a perfect Parisian destination.
Voila!  Hope you enjoyed the stroll.

  1. Hello:
Really these wonderful images do confirm the beauty of Paris and her parks which are, so very clearly, made much use of by residents and tourists alike. And the rich autumn colour everywhere must give such great pleasure.

  3. I enjoyed the stroll very much thank you Robyn. I felt the sun on my face, heard the birds singing in the trees, the French gentlemen playing boulle in the park, the tinkle of the water in the fountains and I could taste that lovely looking glass of red wine. How sublime!
